The 'My Planets' menu lists your planets in alphabetical order.
You can also sort the list by clicking "Name, Fund, Civilians, Workers, Troops, Food, Water" they will sort by least to most
Click on the name of your planet to find out its type, population, and turns.
After clicking on the name of a planet, you have the option to change its name.
Planets can create Constructions.
Buy or sell Items at your Planet Store.
Train Civilians into Workers at your Civic_Center.

As far as Population goes there are just:
Civilians - Increase your Population and provide Tax Income
Workers - Provide Food/Water for Population & Build/Produce stuff
Troops - Protect the Population from Invasions & Rebels
Rebels - Population that are unhappy and have rebelled

You will start with every habitual planet in the system
There will be one planet with 1 million civilians, this is your homeworld (Often refered to as "HW")
all other planet(s) will have 100,000 Civilians, you will not have any workers or troops
It is random what planet types you start with and how many planets you get in the system
