[edit] Overview

This is just a quick walkthrough/guide to get new players started off in Galactic Fleets. It contains hints and tips and an overview of all the game to help players survive and prosper as they begin their journey. If after searching through the Wiki you don't find what you're looking for, check out the Galactic Fleets changes, Galactic Fleets tutorials or ask on the Chat Room.

[edit] Game Objective

To prosper.

To expand.

To rule.

To conquer.

To terrorize.

To trade.

To Play!

Your goal is your own.

[edit] Signing Up

After typing in your E-mail and password it's time to pick a character name, fleet name and choose where you want to start. Make sure you pick a good character name because that's how people will know you in the game and your character name can only be changed when you are destroyed.

[edit] Game View

In Galactic Fleets there are three distinctive ways of viewing the galaxy.

Please note that this information is very very key to your understanding the galaxy around you.

[edit] Moving

There are two ways to move around the galaxy: Light Speed Used to move around in a System. Uses turns and also Hydrogen Hydrogen is collected in space. Hyper Jump. Used to move between Adjacent Sectors. Uses Turns and Hydrogen

You cannot use hydrogen to move from a Grid in a system to an adjacent Grid in another system. You can move from a system to an adjacent system in another sector using Dark Matter.

Now when you try to move in a System or Sector the amount of Turns and Hydrogen will be marked in Red if you don't have enough. This should make it easier to know why your movement is not possible.

[edit] Trading

Trading is critical in this game. In order to trade you have several steps. I will list them here and then explain them in more detail

- Looking for things posted to trade around you

- Aquiring items that are for sale.

The first thing to realize is that trading is a fundemental part of this game. Although all the balancing is not completed its still essential that you begin trading early on. otherwise you will run out of resources

The trade portion of the game is based on $ earned by your civilians and by other trade deals. so make sure you have a stock of cash on hand if you are going to trade

Looking for things posted to trade around you

This is the easiest step. Simply click on "ITEM PRICES" and it will show you a list of things for sale in your local sector. you can change what sector you want to do a search of and you can select a specific product if you know what you want. By clicking on their system listed in this menu you will be taken to the sector map and the system will be highlighted with a box around it.

Aquiring items that are for sale

Once you know where to go you have to get there. Yep. this game doesnt give you a shortcut to transfer goods from one point to another in the blink of an eye. you have to go and pick it up. if you can make it there with less than half your fuel then you will be ok to just send a freighter to pick up the supplies and bring them back to your system. If the distance is further than that (and most likely it will be) you will need both a light freighter and a light supplier. This will allow your freighter to be refueled along the journey.

**Note** Because the game is still in beta testing sometimes trade is a stuggle. If you really want some item and you cant find it for sale close to home offer to trade points for it. points are very valuable in the game and any player will jump at the chance to earn some more. although this hinders your fleet growth some it will be well worth it to get those electronics you have been starving for. there is no offical "products for points" market so its a matter of contacting someone close by and offering up a deal to them. At this time do NOT sell your points for $.

[edit] Buy/Sell Requests

This is done in the planet screen itself. If you click on the planet you want to sell or request from and click on supplies you will be in the screen you want to post your supplies up for sale or request supplies you want to buy from traders passing through.

This allows you to sell/request items at your planet. having others come to you to pick up your supplies and selling supplies that you requested is easier than you moving them yourself. At the beginning you do not want to sell your items. you will need them all for your growing fleet. but you will definitely want to request items to be sold to you. Try to figure out a reasonable price for the items you want to buy. it wont be worth it to a trader if he cant make some money on the trade. also consider that they are the ones doing the traveling.

[edit] Mining

Ahh the all coveted level 1 Mining platform. also known as the M-1. It will be tricky getting one of these up and operational. you will first need to build a shipyard and then construct one. usually you will run out of supplies before you can complete it. This means trade and team work. but once operational it is a great asset.

Mining is done by following these steps

- know what minerals you need

- finding an astroid with those minerals

- getting the mining platform to the astroid

- mining

know what minerals you need

Here is the basic lowdown to getting started

Iridium Ore = PlexiSteel

Quadrium Ore = Power Cells

These will be your first 2 minerals that are needed to build all the other stuff you want.

finding an astroid with those minerals

Use your light cruiser to scout out your system and those systems near by you that have stars in them for astroids. move the ship into the system, scan it and look for a red highlighted box around grids in that system. once you have found an astroid fly to it. then scan again. you will get the details on what type of astroid it is and how big it is.

Astroids never deplete. the size of an astroid simply determines how much ore you will get per turn. the bigger the astroid the more per turn. Iridium astroids are usually pretty plentiful. look for ones near 100 ISA tons. Quadrium ores are very rare. they will be hard to find and rarely over 10 ISA tons. the good news is you dont need alot of Quadrium.

getting the mining platform to the astroid

Mining platforms will literally drink Dark matter for fuel. where most ships can travel 15 to 20 systems before needing refueled a mining platform might make it 10 tops. Make sure that a light supplier at least will be made soon to support its moving from astroid to astroid. Also make sure it has enough hydrogen to move inside the system once there.

mining

This is the easy part. once you have found and gotten your platform to an astroid you simply need to start mining it. click on the actual name M-1 and scroll to the bottom. once there you should see a button to begin mining. After clicking on that you should see the option to decide how many turns you want to dedicate to mining.

[edit] Attacking

As a tutorial the first thing i tell new players is - Dont attack. not only will you inccur the wrath of a huge fleet that can crush you it also might remove your protected status and allow these powerful fleets to move in and squish your once protected planet early on.

Saying that, there are things you can attack. As you explore your sector, you may notice systems around you that have planets with populations but no owner. these can be invaded and taken over. usually without alot of fuss. Since they no longer have an owner you dont have to worry about a retalliation attack. These planets will have supplies and ships that you can use for your own fleet. Often these abandoned (lost) fleets and their supplies will be the difference of barely scraping out a living to rising up and becoming a powerful fleet among the stars. The best idea at the beginning is to explore using your light cruiser. dont forget to scan empty space sectors as well. you never know what some mighty empire put out in empty space to hide and then went inactive. light supply ships also make great scout ships since they carry so much fuel.

[edit] Your First Few Days

You should spend this time reading through this Wiki, and the Forums as well. You're free to contact one of the many Factions or Fleets and apply to join them while you're still learning the game.

Honestly there is little for a new player to do, but ask for help from a faction. This may sound bad, but it helps in the long run. Your faction is the only way to surviving the newbie stages.

Since the wiki is for the most part is incomplete I recommend joining the Game Chat and asking for help there. If you join someone's faction they will often help you more as well as provide help with resources.
